How much are Korean Air unaccompanied minor fees?

Fees for Korean Air Unaccompanied Minors change depending on the age of the child and departure country for the international flight.

The charges are:

  • Children aged 5 to 11 years:
    • Korea: KRW 150,000.
    • S.: USD 150.
    • Canada: CAD 150.
    • Indonesia: IDR 2,140,000.
  • Children aged 12 to 16 years:
    • Korea: KRW 200,000.
    • S.: USD 200.
    • Canada: CAD 200.
    • Indonesia: IDR 2,860,000.

For international departures from locations other than those listed above, Korean Air uses USD as the base currency and converts the charge into the local currency.

How can I book Korean Air unaccompanied minor service?

International tickets must be bought from the Korean Air Service Center and the service requested by parents / guardians. If a child under 12 years old travels abroad, Korean Air will refer customers to buy tickets via its Service Center.

If you must make a request, you should do it at least 24-hours prior to departing, and wait for confirmation. Korean Air offers the same electronic form for unaccompanied minors, also prior to traveling.

What documents does a child need to fly alone?

Documents may differ depending on your destination. Parents should prepare:

  • Child’s valid passport or travel ID as required.

What type of service does an unaccompanied minor receive during their travels?

The Korean Air Unaccompanied Minor Policy covers and supervises the entire trip. A special member of staff helps the child perform all required actions and supports the child during the process of boarding. The cabin crew then take care of the child in flight.

The staff person takes the child through the airport and accompanies the child until the accepted parent / guardian arrives. Korean Air can also make updates on select international routes for their Flying Mom.

Can an unaccompanied minor take a connecting Korean Air flight?

Yes, but subject to restriction. The service is available only on Korean Air’s direct flights. No connections are allowed to cross Korean Air flights on the same international airport and within 6 hours. Same-Day connections (s/n) from Korean Air flights at the same airport and within 6 hours. The service will not cover connection flights with another airline.

Parents should verify: child’s records, guardian information, flight path, confirmation of service etc. before travel. An international unaccompanied minor will usually be eligible for such a service if he/she is at least 18 years old at the time of pick-up/drop-off by an adult.
